We have strong links with a number of overseas theological seminaries across the Anglican Communion, in particular the Church Divinity School of the Pacific at Berkeley, California; Virginia Theological Seminary at Alexandria, new Washington DC; Codrington College in Barbados; and the College of the Transfiguration in Grahamstown, South Africa. Exchange programmes, for both staff and students, with these institutions, enrich the Anglican Communion and foster greater understanding between churches of different traditions.
Students have the opportunity to spend a period of time attending an overseas seminary – the length of time depends on the academic programme being taken. Bursaries can sometimes be awarded for overseas travel and subsistence, course fees, and accommodation. Interested students can make an application to the Academic Dean.
Cat Connolly goes to Virginia Theological Seminary
In the six weeks I spent at Virginia Theological Seminary I met some amazing people, who are serving God in the Episcopal Church with passion and integrity, and who welcomed me with enthusiasm and joyful hospitality! As well as joining the pattern of life and worship in the VTS student community, I took intensive courses on Youth Ministry, Aging and Spirituality, and Social Justice. My exchange allowed for auditing classes, study in the VTS library, travel into Washington DC for sightseeing, visiting different churches and cathedrals, and spending time socialising with new friends. The incredible student choir let me join them to lead worship once a week, and throughout my time there both staff and students were generous in taking me out for food, inviting me to concerts and to watch my first game of American football, and helping to make me feel at home. It was a really good experience to have had and I hope the exchange continues to thrive!
