Canon Dr Michael Brierley appointed Director of Formation

24th June 2021

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Michael as Director of Formation, based at Cuddesdon, from 1st September. In this role he will play a key part in continuing to shape the life of  our Cuddesdon-based pathways as well as the growing together of our different strands into a diverse yet unified family.

Michael will be coming to us from Worcester Cathedral, where he is currently Canon Precentor. Previous to this, he has extensive experience of ministry in parishes in the dioceses of Exeter and Salisbury, and as chaplain to a former bishop of Oxford. Shaped by an evangelical upbringing and having been formed at Cuddesdon and in this range of ministerial contexts, including the choral and catholic tradition of the Cathedral, he is well placed to embrace and enhance the diversity of Cuddesdon’s pathways and we will be enriched by his contribution.

Michael has interests in Apologetics (dialogue between Christians and atheists), Anglican Spirituality (the subject of a forthcoming book), Liturgy and a range of areas of Doctrine, having been involved in the editing of reviews for Modern Believing for over 13 years. He has been involved in teaching and developing ministerial students and curates throughout his career and looks forward to carrying this work forward in this new setting.

Michael said ‘I’m really delighted to have the opportunity of a job that I will love in a place that I love. I greatly look forward to learning alongside colleagues and students on the different pathways, and to being a part of the college community.’

Michael enjoys hiking, having most recently walked the Pennine Way and the coast-to-coast path. He will be moving to Cuddesdon in the summer, ready for the start of term in September.
