Ordained Pioneer Ministry is designed for people who are clear that their vocation is to be involved with creating new forms of emerging church, transforming the lives of people who currently have little or no connection with Church.
If you have been selected for training as a pioneer minister, a partnership between Cuddesdon and Church Mission Society (CMS) offers an approved training pathway for you. Alongside CMS's Pioneer Mission Leadership Training delivered at Cowley, Oxford, just a few miles from Cuddesdon, you will also receive training with part-time ordinands at Cuddesdon.

Students benefit from belonging to two student communities. Whilst being part of a cohort of pioneers at CMS learning from their expertise and commitment to global mission, students also gain further academic study and a deeper engagement with the wider church from Cuddesdon. Students work and/or follow their pioneer ministry for part of each week, and then train with CMS on specific days, and then join Cuddesdon students for six weekends a year, plus a residential week in the first and second years.
The teaching style is highly interactive and relational. The approach is to enhance people’s practice through the application of academic learning. Students find this transformative, when they are given the space to explore live situations in their own – and in others’ – missional communities.
There is a range of Durham University Common Awards courses on offer, including the Diploma, BA and MA in Mission, Ministry and Theology which are designed to be flexible allowing students to mix and match individual modules. If you have already done some accredited learning, or have equivalent experience, this can be taken into account in the track you follow.
